dilitronics presents an innovative LED driver ASIC

World premiere at “Light+Building”

Jena, 12 April 2010 – At this year’s “Light+Building“, the high-tech company dilitronics will be presenting a completely new development in the field of LED control technology, the first of its kind anywhere in the world. With the new controLED ASIC DIL16CL01 it is now possible to control 16 high-power LEDs in parallel. The chip supports control of up to four LED colours, and with its integrated controLED technology allows an extremely compact and energy-efficient driver design.

As Stephan Schulz, founder and Managing Director of dilitronics GmbH, explains: “To be able to exploit the potential of LEDs for complex lighting challenges such as those involved with interior lighting, one requires intelligent control electronics”. Up to now, this involved the use of complex and expensive electronic modules. With the new controLED ASICs, demanding control requirements can now also be implemented quickly and cost-effectively. The underlying controLED technology also allows reduction of the operational stresses placed on the LEDs, with corresponding positive effects on their working life and the power consumption of the LED application.

The LED controller has several innovative features. As Schulz explains: “The light intensity can be controlled individually and in real time for up to 16 LED channels. This makes it possible, for the first time ever, to minimise previously problematic aspects of LEDs such as their temperature and ageing characteristics.“ In combination with energy-efficient power electronics and intelligent control logic, complex lighting tasks can now also be solved using a single, compact driver module. As part of its controLED drive range, dilitronics already offers complete driver modules incorporating the DIL16CL01.

Due to the integration of numerous functions previously performed by additional chips, the ASIC enables construction of an extremely compact LED driver. Schulz: “Our chip is smaller than a 2-cent coin and thus opens up completely new fields of applications for LED lighting concepts in locations where space is at a premium.“ In addition to multicolour interior lighting concepts, energy self-sufficient light spots in locations which are difficult to access are also conceivable.

Dilitronics at “Light+Building”:
In Hall 4, Stand E25, the high-tech company from the German state of Thuringia will be presenting both the new chip and other innovative concepts for LED control. The Managing Director and the dilitronics GmbH team will also be available to discuss the entire product range. Further information can be found at www.dilitronics.com.
